This is a video documentary about the life of an influential and AIGA-award winning book designer. Abe Lerner got his start in book manufacturing at Simon & Schuster in 1928 and worked in that field the rest of his life, as a designer, editor, and art director for World Publishing, Viking Press, and many other firms and small presses until his death at age 94 in 2002. This video combines a rare interview with Abe reflecting on his varied career in the book business, his opinions about the importance of design as an art and his thoughts on its future, with reminiscences by Martin Hutner, Joseph Solman, Lili Wronker, Ron Gordon, and other friends and colleagues.

Produced for the Typophiles as Video Monograph No.1, 2003.
